Hi, I'm Mohammed Said. I teach English full-time at a public high school in Tangier, and for the last seven years I've also worked online with adults on the one thing school never really teaches: speaking without freezing up.
I studied English Studies and Linguistics at Abdelmalek Essaadi University, with a strong focus on phonetics -- which mostly means I spend a lot of time thinking about why certain sounds trip people up, and how to fix that without making anyone feel silly about it.
I started Takalam because I kept meeting people who could read a novel in English, follow a film with no subtitles, write a clean email -- and then completely lock up the second they had to say something out loud, live, to another person. That gap is what I work on. Not grammar drills, not vocabulary lists you'll forget by Friday -- real speaking practice, with someone actually paying attention to you.
I've taught over 2,300 lessons now, to students in more than 20 countries. Some weeks that number still surprises me.
