Common Grammar Mistakes and How to Fix Them

Even advanced English learners make these common grammar mistakes. Learn to identify and correct them.

1. Subject-Verb Agreement

Wrong: The team are playing well.

Correct: The team is playing well.

In American English, collective nouns take singular verbs.

2. Present Perfect vs Past Simple

Wrong: I have seen him yesterday.

Correct: I saw him yesterday.

Use past simple with specific time references.

3. Articles (A, An, The)

Wrong: I want to be doctor.

Correct: I want to be a doctor.

Countable singular nouns need an article.

4. Prepositions of Time

Wrong: I will call you at Monday.

Correct: I will call you on Monday.

Use on for days, at for times, in for months/years.

5. Conditional Sentences

Wrong: If I will see him, I will tell him.

Correct: If I see him, I will tell him.

Don't use will in the if-clause of first conditionals.
